Questions rusty pilots often ask

Not sure if the Rusty Pilot Refresh Series is right for you? These quick answers may help.

Who is the Rusty Pilot Refresh Series for?

The series is designed for Australian pilots who have previously held a licence or certificate and have been away from flying for a period of time—whether that’s 6 months or several years. If you feel out of date on procedures, airspace, radio work, or decision making, this is for you.

Does this replace a flight review or instructor check?

No. The Rusty Pilot Refresh Series is an educational resource to help you rebuild confidence and knowledge before you book in with a flying school or instructor. You will still need to complete any required flight reviews, check flights, or endorsements with a qualified instructor under CASA regulations.

How is the content delivered?

You’ll receive a structured sequence of emails with short, focused lessons, checklists, and examples. We also run optional live online Q&A sessions where you can ask questions and hear from other returning pilots.

Is there a cost?

Joining the series is free and carries no obligation. We’ll email you weekly tips for rusty pilots. If you choose, you can go further and enrol in one of our optional courses at PrivatePilotCourses.com.au.

I’m based outside a major city—can I still benefit?

Yes. The material is designed for pilots across Australia, including regional and remote strips. Because everything is delivered online, you can complete the series wherever you are before booking local flying with a school or club.
